Retreats
Mater Dei Catholic believes that retreats are an important part of the religious education of our students.
Descriptions of each class retreat are as follows:
FRESHMEN
The theme of the freshman retreat is “Welcome to the Mater Dei Community.” Its purpose is to integrate the new members of the Mater Dei family into the school community and faith life. The retreat also introduces the students to spiritual opportunities at Mater Dei and builds class unity. The retreat is a one-day on-campus mandatory event and takes place in September. There is also a follow up “mini-retreat” in the spring.
Freshman Retreat: September 22, 2011
Freshman Mini-Retreat: February 8, 2012
SOPHOMORE
The theme of the sophomore retreat is “Loving your neighbor and respecting your self.” This retreat helps students to understand their own dignity and worth and how they can only be truly fulfilled by loving and serving others. The retreat is separated over two days-one for boys and one for girls. It is on-campus and mandatory.
Sophomore Boys Retreat: March 8, 2012
Sophomore Girls Retreat: March 9, 2012
JUNIOR
The junior retreat theme is “Loving God in a deeper relationship.” On this retreat, students experience God in a profound way through confession and adoration, and many of them experience a deep conversion experience. There are two overnight, off-campus retreats at Whispering Winds Catholic Camp in Julian. The retreat is optional and there is a $25 transportation fee due upon sign-up.

SENIOR
The senior retreat follows the structure of “Kairos Retreat: Looking Back, Looking Forward” in an abbreviated form. It occurs in the spring at Oakbridge YL Camp and is one night overnight. The purpose is to help the students deepen their relationship with God so as to have a firm foundation upon leaving Mater Dei. The retreat is optional and there is a $25 transportation fee due upon sign-up.
