Athletes of the Month

Boys Cross Country - Andres Gomez, 11th

Andres Gomez

Andres is the Cross Country team captain. He is a returning third-year varsity runner whose consistency and outstanding work ethic has catapulted him as one of Mater Dei’s top two male runners. Coming off a very successful 2010-2011 Cross Country and Track & Field season, Andres recommitted himself to be a student of the sport and focused on improving his skills. As a result of his hard work, Andres’s physical stamina and technique has improved drastically.

 

 





Girls Cross Country - Madelyn Healy, 9th

Madelyn Healy

Madelyn is a freshman runner who has quickly distinguished herself as one of the top female runner for the Crusaders. Madelyn’s hard work and natural athleticism has enabled her to reach new personal records on a weekly basis and has gained her recognition as one of the top female runners not only within the Mesa League, but among all freshman San Diego Division IV runners.

 







Football - Fernando Gonzalez, 12th

Fernando Gonzalez

Fernando's tough attitude and physical play has proven to be a huge advantage at Running Back. Fernando has stepped up his game to lead the Crusaders on offense and special teams.

 

 






Girls Golf - Maricela Murillo, 10th

Maricela Murillo

 

Maricela works hard at her game. Always first at practice and has made significant improvement on her game this season.


 






Girls Tennis - Costanza Oliveri, 12th

Costanza Oliveri

 

Costanza, "Costy", has taken over the #2 singles position. Costy’s game is very consistant and she wears her opponents down by making each point last 20 or more shots. Costy is a senior and she will be truly missed next season.


 






Girls Volleyball - Billie Driver, 11th

Billie Driver

Outside hitter Billie Driver is a vital asset to the volleyball team because of her versatility in the front row as an attacker. She can play any of the front row positions and along with her drive and positive attitude Billie continuously strives to improve her skills. 

 






Boys’ Water Polo – Tyler Plaza, 12th

Tyler Plaza

Tyler, a two year varsity award winner and team captain, is leading the charge for the aqua crusaders this year. Tyler is playing the center position for the aqua crusaders and leading the team in goals. Tyler has also come up big on the defensive end playing 2 meter guard, with the task of guarding some of the best players in the south bay.

 






Cheer Squad – Nina Salazar, 12th

Nina Salazar

Nina is one of the Lady Crusaders who helps keep the team together. She is an inspiration to all the cheerleaders and exhibits her fun loving spirit both on the team and off. She is a true “cheer” leader.
