Athletes of the Month

Boys Cross Country - Justin Ryan, 10th

justinryanSophomore, Justin Ryan, has already distinguished himself as Mater Dei's top runner in the Boys' Varsity Division. Coming off a very successful 2010-2011 Cross Country and Track & Field season as a freshman, Justin continues to improve as a runner both mentally and physically. His summer training has definitely paid off early, as he has medaled in every invitational he has raced in September.

 





Girls Cross Country - Mallory Davenport, 12th

Mallory, a senior and Cross Country team captain, is returning as the top female runner for the Crusaders for the second year in a row. Mallory’s hard work and natural athleticism has enabled her to reach new personal records on a weekly basis and has gained her recognition as one of the top female runners not only within the Mesa League, but among all San Diego Division IV runners. She has already dominated meets and Invitationals with her speed and has medaled early on in the Vaquero Stampede where she finished third.







Football - Eddie Medrano, 12th

eddiemedranoEddie has led the Crusader football team playing on the offensive and defensive lines. His aggressive play has set the tone for the Crusaders on the field, and his hard work in the classroom has set the tone for the team.

 






Girls Golf - Natalia Olazabal, 10th

Natalia, as a sophomore is the leader of the girl’s golf team. She sets the standard at practice and follows through on the course. She is looking for a strong finish to qualify for CIF.

 






Girls Tennis - Lynn Angelie San Roman, 11th

Lynn has played in our #1 Singles position since the start of the season and she has won all of her sets easily. Her current record is 6-0 and she should continue to excel in her play and become another Mater Dei Singles League Champion.

 






Girls Volleyball - Vianca De La Parra, 11th

Vianca, a 6'1 middle blocker, is a great addition to the varsity volleyball team because of her offensive and defensive capabilities. As a middle blocker she is amongst the top five in the league for blocks per game (1.2 B/G) and hitting percentage (31.1%) amongst all hitters.

 






Boys’ Water Polo – Alec Figy, 11th

Junior utility man Alec Figy has led the aqua-crusaders to a fast start this season. Alec is the leader of the aqua-crusaders offense and is averaging five goals a game. Alec has been a three year letter man for the aqua-crusaders and started for the team in his sophomore year.
