Crusader Hall of Fame
Every year, a committee comes together to select notable Crusaders from our 64-year history whose remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication have set new standards of excellence in our athletic community. The contributions and incredible backstories of these inductees have inspired and influenced many, and their legacies continue to impact our Crusader community.
2024 Hall of Fame Inductees
Coach Gerken
Coach Gerken's 20-year commitment to Marian and Mater Dei Catholic consisted of pivotal roles such as Technology Director, Alumni Director, boy’s and girl’s golf coach, and Athletic Director from 1999-2018. Not only did our Crusader athletics flourish under his leadership, but Coach Gerken is also responsible for establishing our girl’s golf program and the installment of the swimming pool that initiated the development of our renowned aquatics center. At the age of 70, he continues to show up and be an active contributor and supporter of our Crusader community.
Scotty Goodloe
Class of 2004
Scotty was a three-time varsity letterman for basketball and two-time varsity letterman for football throughout his years at Marian Catholic High School. Between 2002 and 2003, Scotty helped lead the Marian Catholic Football Team to back-to-back Metro League Championships, back-to-back CIF DIV III Championships, and the school’s first ever CIF State Championship. Scotty’s football career would continue after high school as a defensive starter from 2005-2008 at Weber State University. Scotty continued to make an impact on younger generations while he worked for the San Diego Unified School District where he provided programs and counseling for students with mental health issues for over 7 years.
Oscar Casillas
Class of 2008
Oscar Casillas was a four-time varsity letterman, Casillas led the boy’s golf team to four consecutive wins as South Bay League Champions from 2005-2008. His impressive list of titles and accolades consist of being named South Bay League First Team three years in a row, South Bay League Golfer of the Year in 2007 and All CIF San Diego Section First Team in 2008. He then continued onto play collegiate golf at Point Loma Nazarene University from 2010-2013.
Wendy Tamayo Marrion
Class of 2010
During Wendy's time as a Crusader, she was a four-time varsity letterman for softball and two-time varsity letterman for girls’ basketball. Wendy’s impressive record of softball awards include 2009 All Mesa League, 2010 Team Captain, 2010 High School Mesa League Player of the Year, 2010 DIV IV First Team, and 2010 CIF Player of the Year. Her incredible athleticism and leadership also helped lead the girls’ Basketball Team to win the 2009 League Championship, CIF Southern Regional Championship, and CIF State Championship.
MDC's 2011 Softball Team
Our 2011 Softball team faced incredible challenges, including the passing of Coach Perry Burgess. Their unwavering dedication to their team and love for their sport led them all the way to the CIF championship to face Madison High School with a record of 28 and 0. Trailing 6 to 3 in the top of the last inning, they scored five runs and went on to win 8 to 6. By taking care of each other and playing as a team, they finished their season the Mater Dei way “With the heart and soul of a champion."
