Rationabile Obsequium:
Faith and Intellect of Service of God and Neighbor
The Latin phrase Rationabile Obsequium, found on our school seal since its inception in 1960, reminds our students that regardless of each person’s individual faith, as a whole we embrace and exemplify Catholic traditions—striving for unity and reconciliation through compassion and service to all of God’s creations.
Our campus culture revolves around service and servant leadership, embodying our deep Catholic identity. Liturgical Celebrations, Annual Retreats, and Christian Service Programs are among the avenues to achieve our spiritual goals.

Christian Service Program
The Christian Service program, more than just a service hours requirement, is a call to serve others as taught by Jesus Christ “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mt 18: 45) at the same time encountering Christ in the face of one’s neighbor.
The program is developmental, guiding each student through four stages:
- Learning to reach beyond oneself to serve others.
- Learning that those in need or on the margins are no different from oneself, just living in different circumstances.
- Seeing and loving Jesus in the other and seeking the intrinsic goodness of love for others, especially the poor and sick.
- Developing a life mission of service to others through the dedication of one’s God-given talents to the building of God’s Kingdom of love and peace.

Liturgy
As a central aspect of our Catholic identity, Mater Dei Catholic celebrates all-school Masses monthly. We also encourage our students, faculty, and staff to attend Mass on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during lunch.
For the safety of our students, masses are not open to other community members and are only for Mater Dei Catholic students, faculty, and staff unless there is an explicit invitation to other community members.
